2008 Grand National Winner Comply Or Die

2008 Grand National

It was a great day for punters when Comply Or Die won the 2008 Grand National in fine style when 7/1 joint favourite of two. Heavily backed all week, Comply Or Die had sent out all the warning signals in his warm up race, the Eider Handicap Chase at Newcastle, a month previously. That race was over four miles with 25 fences and Comply Or Die won looking like he could stay all day. The same applied in this race, in which he looked the likely winner two from home, although he had to beat off a few robust challenges on the run in. It was a fully deserved victory.

Second home was the Arthur Moore trained, King John Castle, who finished four lengths adrift, while the much fancied Snowy Morning ran a great race to be third. Slim Pickings who had finished third in the 2007 Grand National, proved that was no fluke by getting fourth place with another well fancied horse, Bewleys Berry back in fifth.

Comply Or Die narrowly failed in his quest to join the Grand National legends in the 2009 Grand National, finishing second behind 100/1 Mon Mome. There is no doubt however, that he will be one of the leading contenders again this time around.
