Wonderful Charm Betting

Wonderful Charm is former Grade 2-winning chaser trained by Paul Nicholls, and the eight-year-old son of Poliglote will now take his chance in the 2016 Crabbie's Grand National at Aintree on April 9, as he looks to hand the Ditcheat-based handler more success in the world's greatest steeplechase.

Season Form:

  • 11th December 2015 - Cheltenham - Ryman Stationery Handicap Chase - 3m, 2f - 2nd

Wonderful Charm propelled into the limelight a few seasons ago as having contested the 2013 World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, he then blossomed in the novice chasing division, with his career highlight coming at Newbury as he bagged victory in the 2013 Berkshire Novices' Chase, but the eight-year-old has failed to build on those performances in recent seasons.

Paul Nicholls has now elected to send this staying chaser to Aintree for the Grand National, but he will have a significant weight burden to carry in the marathon test, but he will be a fresh horse having only raced on this season, where he was a creditable second in Cheltenham's Ryman Stationery Handicap Chase at the International meeting in December.

VERDICT: He shaped like he could be a new star chaser in Paul Nicholls' stable, but he has failed to reach the dizzy heights of his novice chasing season, so it's hard to see him being good enough to land a blow here, and while stamina shouldn't be an issue he can only have his sights set on an minor role.
