This nine year old is another exciting prospect from the Dessie Hughes yard in Ireland, who has already staked his potential claim on the 2010 Grand National with an emphatic victory over the National fences when winning the Becher Chase on Nov 21st – a well know Grand National Trial. He looked very impressive when winning and is a big improver over the last 12 months.
A winner prior to this of the Wilderness Chase at Clonmel at the end of October, this horse should be monitored carefully for the rest of the NH season.
Hughes also won the 2008 Becher Chase with his other National fancy, Black Apalachi, who ran well for most part of the 2009 Grand National before coming down at Bechers second time around.
Since his Becher Chase win, Hughes has kept the horse happy with a couple of modest hurdle races at Leopardstown, but he has followed those up with by impressively winning the Grade 2, Bobbyjo Chase at Fairyhouse on 20 February where he had stablemate Black Apalachi 8 lengths adrift in second place. He was receiving 5lbs from Black Apalachi but it is clear that he is an improving sort and very worthy of major Grand National consideration. Most Bookmakers have shortened his odds to around the 16/1 mark for Aintree.
