Trained by Bob Buckler, Niche Market came to prominence last season after his outstanding run when winning the 2009 Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse. In that race he had current race favourite, Tricky Trickster well behind, plus several others who will be lining up at Aintree.
This season he had a great race when third behind the imperious Denman in the Hennessy Gold Cup after staying on gamely and jumping superbly.
He then got the better of Denman in the Aon Chase at Newbury on 13th February where he finished second after Denman came to grief in the closing stages. Unfortunately his exceptional run was not quite enough to win the race as Tricky Trickster seemingly coming from nowhere with Ruby Walsh on board, got up to win on the line.
Nonetheless he was shortened in price for the Grand National and is now second favourite, behind Tricky Trickster with a best price currently of 16/1 in the Grand National odds.
The eight year old certainly has real class and has taken on some of the best graded chasers in the country over the last year or so and has continued to improve. His trainer has confirmed that Aintree will be his main target for which he believes he is well in at the weights.
