Gallant Oscar Betting
Gallant Oscar is a staying chaser trained by Irish handler Tony Martin, who is set to line up in the 2016 Crabbie's Grand National, and is a lively outsider for what is going to be an ultra-competitive renewal of the Aintree marathon on April 9.
- 6th March 2016 - Naas - Leinster National - 3m - 5th
- 17th January 2016 - Leopardstown - Coral Handicap Hurdle - 3m - 7th
- 27th December 2015 - Leopardstown - Paddy Power Chase - 3m - Fell
Gallant Oscar ended last season with a fine victory in Punchestown's Pat Taaffe Handicap Chase, and the Tony Martin-trained star was earmarked for a tilt at the 2016 Grand National after that success, but he has failed to build on that notable success and will need a career best if he is to land the Aintree prize for Ireland.
He kicked off his season in late December at Leopardstown, but fell in the latter stage of the valuable Paddy Power Chase, so Martin opted to send him back over hurdles on his next trip to Leopardstown, and he could only finish seventh in a three-mile handicap hurdle a month later.
Arguably, his most positive performance of the season came last month in the Leinster National, as he finish fifth in the staying showpiece at Naas, but it will need a lot more progression if he is to play a starring role in the 2016 Grand National, and that's why he is available at huge odds for the Merseyside feature.

VERDICT: Gallant Oscar appeared to be on the upgrade when winning the Paddy Power Chase at the end of last season, but Tony Martin's charge has failed to sparkle this term, and it's hard to see him being a factor in what is his toughest career assignment.
