Black Thunder Betting
Black Thunder is a nine-year-old horse trained by champion trainer Paul Nicholls who is set to run in the 2016 Crabbie's Grand National at Aintree on April 9, but will head into the marathon contest as a big-priced runner in the lower echelons of the handicap.
- 6th February 2016 - Sandown Park - Betfred Masters Handicap Chase - 3m - 6th
- 9th January 2016 - Chepstow - Welsh Grand National - 3m, 5f - UR
- 14th November 2015 - Cheltenham - Murphy Group Handicap Chase - 3m, 3f - 12th
Paul Nicholls tasted victory in the Grand National with Neptune Collonges and he will unleash a strong battalion at the 2016 renewal, but Black Thunder will need to improve on his performances this season, as he was first seen finishing way down the field in the Murphy Group Handicap Chase at Cheltenham in November.
Handed the Welsh Grand National as his next task, the nine-year-old unseated his rider in the middle of contest, and he has only been seen once since that effort where he was sixth in the Betfred Masters Handicap Chase at Sandown Park, so he will need to bounce back to form if he is to play any notable role in the Aintree marathon.

VERDICT: Out of form this season, Black Thunder will find it tough on his first run in the Grand National, and it's hard to see him featuring prominently for champion trainer Paul Nicholls.
