Aachen Betting

Aachen is a veteran staying chaser trained by Venetia Williams who is set to line up in the 2016 Crabbie's Grand National for the first time on April 9, but at the age of 12 years old could face a stiff task to land a blow in what is a competitive renewal of the world's greatest steeplechase at Aintree.

Season Form:

  • 9th March 2016 - Newbury - Greatwood Veterans' Handicap Chase - 3m, 1f - 9th
  • 30th January 2016 - Doncaster - Sky Bet Chase - 3m - 11th
  • 2nd January 2016 - Sandown Park - 32Red Veterans' Handicap Chase - 3m - 2nd
  • 11th December 2015 - Cheltenham - Ryman Stationery Handicap Chase - 3m, 2f - 1st
  • 3rd December 2015 - Wincanton - Silver Buck Handicap Chase - 3m, 1f - 1st
  • 8th November 2015 - Sandown Park - 188Bet Veterans' Handicap Chase - 3m - 4th

Venetia Williams's Aachen is in the twilight of his career, but the 12-year-old will make his first attempt of landing Grand National glory at Aintree, but he will be a huge outsider for the staying showpiece, as he has failed to sparkle over fences in recent months, and will have it all to do off his current mark.

He racked up a brace of notable wins in December as he followed a Wincanton success with a win at Cheltenham, but since then he has been unable to play a starring role and was last seen finishing down the field in a veterans' handicap chase at Newbury, so it's going to be tough for him to figure in this race that oozes quality.

VERDICT: Out of form in recent months, and will struggle to land a blow in this sort of company, so is certainly one to ignore in this field jam-packed with quality.
